The 2nd annual “No Whiners” Pickleball Tournament was held Saturday, February 6th under a glorious Sun City Shadow Hills blue and cloudless sky. Sixty-six of our club members participated in the Beginners, Intermediate or Advanced draws, making good use of our fantastic new courts! Competitors relaxed and rejuvenated in their lawn chairs between games, visiting with their friends and enjoying a delicious lunch and refreshments expertly presented by social committee volunteers Maureen and Blair Bowers.
With games that tested both skills and endurance, Sandra Jenkins and George Stevens won the Beginners draw, Janice Blackwill and Betty Dickey defeated Maggie Wonbon and Duncan Dickey in the Intermediate draw and SueAnn Bilanski and Bill Billesbach were victorious against John Anderson and Gary Korsmeier in the Advanced draw.
Club president Ray Colletti presented each of the finalists with a nice bottle of wine, leaving the rest of the competitors to lament their losses and formulate their excuses – but quietly of course – there can be “No Whiners” after all.
Thanks to all the volunteers who contributed to the success of the tournament – Ray Colletti, Bill Billesbach, Blair and Maureen Bowers, Linda Currie and all those who helped with set up and the tear down of the tent and refreshment area.
