Flag Notification

Fly the United States Flag at Half-Staff on Monday, May 15, 2017 in Honor of Peace Officers' Memorial Day 2017

Peace Officers Memorial Day

President John F. Kennedy declared the first Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15, 1962, as a tribute to peace officers and in honor of peace officers who, through their courageous deeds, lost their lives or became disabled in the line of duty. This day has been observed in our country annually ever since.

On this day, and every day, it is fitting to honor those peace officers who gave their lives to protect ours, and to thank the law enforcement officers who serve for their dedication and service to our communities.

In accordance with Flag Code section 7(m), the United States flag is to be displayed at half-staff for the entire day in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day, Monday, May 15, 2017. By a joint resolution approved October 1, 1962, as amended (76 Stat. 676), and by Public Law 103-322, as amended (36 U.S.C. 136-137), the President has been authorized and requested to designate May 15 of each year as "Peace Officers Memorial Day" and the week in which it falls as "Police Week."

Strategic Plan

Do you have a suggestion for the Board on a new amenity or on how to improve a current amenity? The Board wants to hear from you, please email your suggestions to strategicplan@scshca.com.

The Board reviews our three-to-five-year Strategic Plan each year to provide each new board with continuity in what the SCSH Homeowners would like implemented in OUR community. Items on the current Strategic Plan include:

  • covered parking with solar panels in the main parking lots at our two clubhouses (currently unable to implement because it would require a 20-year lease, without an exception to our multi-year lease requirement)
  • an intra-community shuttle (we are exploring Sun Dial coming in to our property to facilitate our needs)
  • the expansion of the Capistrano. (we expanded the HOA office, including adding a meeting room to free up space in other areas).

Some items voted to enhance the community, will be included in next year’s budget. YOU can have a voice into what shows up on our Strategic Plan for next year.

Simply email your suggestions before MAY 20th to strategicplan@scshca.com.

This year’s improvements, based on last year’s strategic plan are:

  • the expansion of the HOA to add more meeting space
  • the new lights going up this summer on the 18 Hole putting course, as well as, the improvements to the course.

Please submit your ideas today so that your voice will be counted and don’t miss attending the STRATEGIC PLANNING STUDY SESSION, where the Board will be considering ALL the emailed comments, on Tuesday, May 23 at 10:00 AM in the Montecito Ballroom.

An Acting Opportunity!

Indio Water Authority Lifts Drought Penalties

Good Supply Conditions Bring An End To Drought-Era Water Use Restrictions

INDIO, CA (April 21, 2017) – Indio Water Authority (IWA) has lifted the Stage II water restrictions and the drought surcharge imposed to promote conservation following an end to the Drought State of Emergency and City Council/IWA Board’s action to that effect on April 19.

On April 7, Governor Jerry Brown declared that the five-year drought across most of California was over following a winter of abundant rain and snow. While mandatory state conservation regulations were lifted, prohibitions on water waste remain in effect.

Following the governor’s announcement and Board action, IWA has eliminated drought penalties for customers who exceed their water budgets. Individual water budgets are located on monthly billing statements, and allow for efficient indoor and outdoor use. Those who exceed their budget will no longer pay extra penalty but only the higher rates for top-tier consumption. May 2017 water bills will reflect the change.

“The drought emergency is over, but IWA customers must continue to use water as efficiently as possible,” said IWA General Manager Brian Macy. “The last five, dry years have taught us that we must protect our resources and be smart about water use.”

Wasteful water practices that are permanently banned include watering lawns within 48 hours of a rainstorm, hosing off sidewalks and driveways, washing automobiles with hoses not equipped with a shut-off nozzle, irrigating ornamental turf on public street medians, and overwatering landscaping to the point where water runs into the streets.

For more information about IWA’s water conservation program and rebates, please call (760) 391-4038 or email at iwaconserve@indio.org.

Artists of the Month

The Creative Arts Club "Artists of the Month" for April are Geoff Toner and Bill Butler.  You can see their amazing art on display at the Montecito Clubhouse on "The Wall" near the back of the library.  Other artwork can be seen and is available for purchase, simply contact the artist for purchase information.

The Creative Arts Club meets on Mondays and Thursdays from 9 am to noon in the Cambria/Mirada rooms of the Montecito Clubhouse.  These are their “painting and creating” days, where members bring their works in progress (or new ideas) to our beautiful art rooms.

First, they put tablecloths down to protect tables from any wildly creative mood they might be experiencing.  Then unload the tools – whatever they may be – paints, brushes, pencils, also canvas, board or paper and start creating.  Maybe some music in the background and the scene is set to interact with other artists or just deeply concentrate on a masterpiece to be.

Members wander around and see what the other artists are up to and some offer constructive help as well. Art classes are offered in the Fall/Winter/Spring months. Our members experience top quality artists in media such as acrylics, watercolor, and drawing to advance their knowledge of a particular medium.

Beginners are always welcome, as well as more experienced artists. Each month an artist is chosen for Artist of the Month. The group has a closet full of resource materials and tools to help get the paint on the paper ready for the next process.

Come to one of our Monday or Thursday art days to get a dose of art and fun!
