My life has always held an element of the outdoors. Downhill skiing was a big part of my teen and adult years. Living close to Banff and Jasper allowed me to ski in some of the most scenic and challenging areas offered in the Canadian Rockies. For a time, I taught downhill skiing at a local hill west of Edmonton. In my forties, I gave up skiing for the warm weather sport of golf. Through my summers, I can be found walking the golf course 3 to 4 times per week. And now, in my retirement, I’ve come to love hiking in and around the Coachella Valley.

Although I spent a lot of time outdoors, I had not formally “hiked” until I joined the Over the Hill Hiking Club in SCSH. I initially learned about equipment, safety, and the trails from our experienced hike leaders Sam Seebart, John Tang and John Ramsey. I am a past president of the club and currently a hike leader. I count myself fortunate to hike with such an enthusiastic group of outdoor-minded individuals and I enjoy sharing my love of nature with others.
