RED and GREEN Cards . . . Just what are these things?

You may have noticed the Red and Green laminated cards being delivered throughout the neighborhood by your volunteer resident members of the Emergency Preparedness Sub-Committee.  By the month’s end, every home in Sun City Shadow Hills should have one.  But just what is it?

Jeff Kirkpatrick, Chair of the EPOC has developed a team of dedicated residents called the ‘Windshield Survey Team’ whose mission is to cruise each of our twenty residential tracts and report damage and calls for help during a major emergency. (Earthquake, Fire, Chemical Spill, etc.)

The red and green cards are being passed out to each and every home in order to make the ‘Windshield Survey’ easy to see who needs help and get the word back to emergency personnel.  The GREEN side means that you and your residence are OK and need no assistance.  The RED side means that you or your residence does need some type of help.

Following the emergency event, you merely place the card with the appropriate color-side in a street facing window.  As the Windshield Survey Team passes your residence, we will note your status and if the RED CARD is showing, we will make contact with you to determine what you need.  We then contact our Emergency Operations Center and they will do their best to get you the help you need.  SIMPLE!

The Emergency Preparedness Sub-Committee is still actively recruiting homeowners to volunteer for this program.  If you are interested in volunteering for this or any committee, please fill out a Volunteer Committee Application, found here http://www.scshca.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Advisory-Committee-Interest-Form.pdf  and submit to the HOA office.

Don’t forget to sign up and attend the next Disaster Preparedness-101 Course (on Wednesday, November 22, 2017: Montecito Cambria Room from 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm), if you haven’t already done so.  Our goal is to have 100% of our residents attend this course, so you will all be as prepared as possible, WHEN the Big One hits.
